I've worked with people who've often told me, 'Your ideas are too big', 'Focus on the smaller stuff', 'It won't work', etc etc. Most of you probably know or work with these people too.
To an extent it's probably true. That big vision or plan will most definitely get knocked back. In fact it's a certainty that things won't go the way I first imagined. Perhaps some won't buy into my vision, or there'll be some other brick wall that appears, meaning that I need to adapt or change course a little. Depending on how big that diversion, it might even make me question my own belief in the viability of the plan. That is until I've planned my next move.
But my point is, had I not been thinking at such a high level, I would never have learnt the lessons that come at that level. I'd never be playing with the players at that level.
It doesn't matter if you don't win the Superbowl. The point is, you're on the field playing with all the other stars of the game. You're on the field learning lessons at a level, which you can only learn by playing at that level.
If you're going to fail (or learn) at any level, isn't it best to fail at the highest level. It saves so much time. Apart from what you learn, just imagine the impact you'll make when you do win. One move in the big league, could be the equivalent of a life times hard graft in the little league. Besides, when you've played in the big league, everything else just seems like a waste of effort.
It takes the same amount of effort to think at the smallest level, as it does to think at the biggest. The only difference being, to reach your desired outcome, whether big or small, is the technique or strategy you use to get there.
Don't let fear or self doubt get in your way. Everyone playing at the highest level was once just the same as you. The only difference with them, they dared to think and act at a higher level. You can too. Most say, if they could rewind, they'd have done it much sooner.
The only thing holding you back, is the perception of your own reality. If you believe you're not able to play at the highest level, you're definitely right. But don't complain when the guy next to you starts playing in the Superbowl. You had your ticket, but you ripped it up & went home, believing it to be fake.
Our life is a performance, but it's our choice whether to play the headline act on the big stage, or whether we'll be in small tent at the back, just next to the portable toilets.
It's your performance. How are you choosing to play it.
